Traveling along the "salt road", which leads to the biggest lagoon of Sicily, you'll wholly admire the beauty Nature has given to this area, nowadays one of the most important for the economy of the town of Trapani. You'll see the characteristic wind-mills, some of them entirely operating, and the huge basins where the salt is collected; a halt at the Salt Museum is obligatory.By boat we'll reach the isle of San Pantaleo, where the ancient Punic city of Mothia rises. Worth seeing is the "Tophet", a sacred area reserved for sacrifices, the so-called "House of the mosaics" and the statue of a young man ("Il Giovinetto") found in the waters of the Stagnone.

Founded in pre-Hellenic period by Elymians, it is an interesting archaeological area. Its Theatre, probably dating to 4th century B.C., stands on the slopes of Monte Barbaro and is the only building remained within the walls. The Doric Temple (5th century B.C.) lies alone on a flat hill, in perfect state of conservation.
Erice excursion

Once a site dedicated to Venus Erycina, it is a famous place of legend, lying in still unspoilt nature. The layout and architecture of this town are still those of a medieval quarter, and the Arab-Spanish "patio" arrangement of many of the houses is very fascinating. Places to visit are the Main Church (14th century), the Venus Castle ( a stronghold built on the area of the old sanctuary), Pepoli Castle (which looms majestically over the gardens of the Balio), the Cordici Civic Museum, housed in the Palazzo del Municipio. On the way you'll appreciate many of the typical product, such as carpets, spirits (Monte San Giuliano, Ericino), cakes (elimi, genovesi, almonds cakes). Finally, a stop at the pottery factory.
Trapani excursion

The Greeks named it "Drepanum" and it lies between the slopes of Monte Erice" and a hook-shaped promontory; the position on the shore made it an important commercial port of western Sicily. Worthy visiting are: Torre di Ligny (a splendid viewpoint), the ancient walls, San Lorenzo Cathedral (rebuilt in the 17th century), the fish market and the fishing port, Palazzo Cavarretta, the Annunziata Sanctuary and the Museo Nazionale Pepoli.
Marsala excursion

Founded by the Carthaginians fled from Mothia in 397 B.C., its name is linked to that of Giuseppe Garibaldi, who landed here with his men on 1860. Places to visit: the Cathedral, dedicated to St. Thomas of Canterbury and built over a Norman edifice; the Monastery of San Pietro; Porta Nuova; the Museo Nazionale Lilibeo, housed in the "baglio" Anselmi, where is the only Punic ship in existence (the "liburna"). Finally, a visit to a wine producer in order to taste the famous Marsala wine.
Selinunte excursion

Founded in the second half of the 7th century B.C., it is one of the most important and outstanding archaeological areas in Italy. Worthy seeing are the temples on the eastern hill (E, F, G), the Acropolis (situated on the hill above the sea) and the Malophoros Sanctuary, dedicated to Demeter.

Valley of the Temples is an evidence of the ancient history of Agrigento, founded in 581 B.C. by Greek settlers from Gela. Worthy visiting: the medieval church of San Biagio, incorporating the Temple of Demeter, the Temple of Juno, the Temple of the Concordia, the Temple of Hercules( which was the first of the Agrigento Doric temples), the Sanctuary to the Chthonic Deities, which occupies a wide area and encloses the remains of four temples and numerous altars.
Monreale excursion

A tourist resort south of Palermo, placed on a panoramic upland overlooking the Conca d'oro. Worthy visiting are: the Cathedral (12th century), which is the finest example of Norman architecture in Sicily; the Cloisters, flanking the right side of the Cathedral, which form a splendid square structure, and the surrounding quadriportico with its rich polychrome ornamentation.
